ERYTHEMA NODOSUM
Erythema Nodosum is a disorder characterized by acute or chronic inflammation of subcutaneous fat/fat tissue.
Appearance of Erythema Nodosum
- Skin appears;
- tender to touch
- red, round nodules
- sites: lower legs, knees and arms
- patient can also complain about joint pain, muscle aches, and fever
- found in about 1% of the population, but is found more in females than males
- mainly affects teenagers to young adults
Causes of Erythema Nodosum

- infections, such as tuberculosis or bacteria, streprococcus
- cancer
- inflammatory diseases, such as Crohn’s
- drugs, such as aspirin and oral contraceptive pills, and antibiotics, like sulfonamides

- aspirin, advil for pain and redness
- bed rest
- dressings
