Also well-known as winter eczema, the winter itch or eczema craquele.

It is a form of eczema/dermatitis which presents with dry, rough, scaly and inflamed skin, affecting the shins and lower legs. It resembles a ‘dried river bed’ and therefore was termed, eczema ‘craquele.’ This form of eczema, is more common in the winter, and is due to frequent bathing, exaggerated shampoo and/or soap use, hot water bathes, aging and low relative humidity environments.
